Module: Notifications

Notifications module keeps your chama (group) members informed and engaged by providing various communication channels. This guide will explain how to access and utilize this module's features to ensure effective communication within your chama.

It's important to note that the Notifications module requires the following modules to function effectively.

Accessing the Notifications Module

Open the Digichama platform and log in to your account. Ensure you're on the dashboard of the chama you want to manage. Within the right-side menu, click on the option labeled "Notifications", This will show you to the options in the Notifications module.

Communication Options

The Notifications module offers three main functionalities:

Send SMS:

This feature allows authorized users (typically the Secretary or Chairperson) to send SMS messages directly to chama members. You can personalize messages by using placeholders like "#name" for member names and "#group" for the chama name.

Standard SMS length is 160 characters. Longer messages will be split into multiple parts and sent and charged accordingly.

Notification Log

This section provides a historical record of all communication sent and pending within your chama. The log displays the following information for each notification:

  • Reason for sending the notification
  • Communication method used (SMS, Email, Push Notification)
  • Date and time sent
  • Module related to the notification (e.g., Loan created with a link for details)

Settings

The Settings section allows you to configure various notification preferences for your chama. These settings are further divided into six sub-menus, each with the following options:

  • Status: Set the sub-menu to "Active" or "Inactive" to enable or disable specific notifications.
  • Gateway: Choose the communication method (SMS, Email, Push Notification) for each sub-menu.
  • Send Immediately: Select "Yes" for immediate notifications or "No" to schedule them for a specific time.
  • Send At: (Applicable if "Send Immediately" is "No") Define the scheduled time for sending notifications within this sub-menu.

The Settings section includes six sub-menus with predefined notification functions:

Canceled Notification

Sent when an action is canceled (e.g., a welfare creation is canceled due to an error).

Created Notification

Sent when something new is added, such as a new loan being issued to a member.

Credit Notification

Sent when accounts requiring payment are credited (e.g., loan payment received within the grace period).

Default Notification

Sent when a payment due date has passed (e.g., loan repayment overdue).

Meeting Reminder

Sent as a reminder for upcoming chama meetings.

Payment Receipt

Sent as confirmation of a received payment (for emails, only one email with a consolidated receipt for all payments will be sent).
